Day 2 Carcassonne France

Today is my Daddy’s birthday, so I used my Skype account to call him. “It sounds like you are in the next room!” he said. And I was using my iPod Touch! I had a dream last night that I was at my Auntie Lynn’s 80th birthday party, which is tomorrow. I’m sad I can’t go but maybe I’ll give her a call.

So today we woke up at 9 am, which is mucho late for us, as you know, but since we ate dinner at 10 pm, and flew for 22 hours, I was not surprised. We went and got a coffee, then hit the road for Carcassonne in our cute VW Golf. Now is about the time when I need to introduce you to the friend who is traveling with us, Samantha. Samantha is the voice of our Garmin Nuvi 275T, and she is a little rough around the edges. She really barks the directions at you. And her accent is bad in Spanish and French. However, all we have to do is type in the address and she guides us straight to where we need to be. It’s pretty liberating and I’m certain it will stave off several quarrels in the Golf.

So it took us 2.5 hours, and we hopped right up to Carcassonne. I think John was a little worried about the border crossing since he’s used to waiting 2 hours in line to get from Mexico back into the US.  But we barely slowed down to 25 MPH to go from Spain to France. Thank heavens for the EU. The drive was nice, despite the ventes violents—the violent winds blowing off the Mediterranean.  But soon Samantha pointed us straight to our hotel, Hotel Montmorency, which is in sight of the walled medieval city.  We checked in, and headed straight in for some lunch. We shared a prix fixe lunch of Onion Soup, Cassoulet, and Apple Tarte. Then we found the jewelry store where I bought a ring 20 years ago when I was here.

We went back to the hotel and changed clothes to go for our run (we woke up too late in Spain to have a proper run there, but luckily it’s rainy and a little cold so we could do it this afternoon). 4 miles around the old city and we got to see lots of sights. I love being a runner! Okay. That was really a jog too, but I’m happy being a jogger since it’s a good way to see the town.

Now we’re at the café having a vin rouge. We are going back into the cite tonight to hear the Toulouse Orchestre, hopefully, and to have a nice dinner. I love France!!!
